IWC At Tribeca Film Festival 2016

IWC Schaffhausen keeps sponsoring cinema and international filmmakers by supporting the “Tribeca Film Festival 2016” for the fourth year in a row, as a “Festival-Time” partner. Hosting their annual timepiece auctions, including the limited-edition “IWC Portugieser Annual Calendar Edition” with proceeds of these sales benefiting the “Tribeca Film Institute”. The festival will be occurring from the 13th to the 24th of April.

Festivities were initiated on the 15^th of April with the “For The Love of Cinema” gala, which was hosted by the comedian Joel McHale. The master of ceremony kicked off the night’s humor by mainly roasting the festival creator, Robert De Niro. The iconic Oscar-winning movie star was accompanied by actresses Kate Mara and Katie Holmes, as well as the festival co-creators: Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff. But, many more stars illuminated this gathering, such as IWC ambassadors: Dev Patel and Scott Eastwood.

A duo that also was target of some Joel McHale jokes. While musical entertainment was provided by the JohnnySwim duet, an American folk, soul, blues band, formed by Amanda Sudano and Abner Ramirez.

IWC has had a long history of synergies within the film industry. It began via their relationships with major actors and product placements in select films and naturally evolved towards film festivals held around the globe, stated Franziska Gsell-Etterlinm, CMO at IWC Schaffhausen. And the Tribeca Film Festival is a fundamental partnership for IWC, as it aims at fostering the industry’s young talent by providing them with a platform to share their work. And after 3 successful years, 2016 marks the first of another three years, as IWC officially renewed its commitment.

As for the limited-edition “IWC Tribeca Film Festival 2016 Portugieser” its 44mm round case is made of stainless-steel with a grooved bezel. Its exhibition caseback allows to see the inner movement and its detailed embellishing decorations, like: the new slimmer rotors with open bridges inset with a solid gold “Probus Scafusia” medallion; the wear-free black and white ceramic components and the “Tribeca Film Festival” logo including the engraved number “XX/50” to identify the number of each of these limited timepieces.

The overall slate-colored dial exhibits a white classic railway-tracks-style chapter ring, Arabic numerals and slim feuille hands. The option to use a slate color was to procure a similarity to New York City streets as a homage to the Tribeca Film Festival. While the Bordeaux-colored sub-dials intend to symbolize the red carpets, a glamourous detail of these film industry celebrations, recognizable worldwide. The sub-dials contain: a power reserve indicator located between the 2 and 4 o’clock position and a sub-seconds counter between the 10 and 8 o’clock position.

Three semi-circular windows located under the 12 o’clock positon display the annual calendar in “American style” indications: month, date and day. The option for the “American” date order was not just due to technical and design factors, but is also an homage to Florentino Ariosto Jones, IWC’s American founder.
